Serums, what are they and do you need one?
Faster and lighter are qualities that I look for when I am going to run a marathon or do a triathlon, now put these two prized attributes to skin care serums. They are light, fast absorbing, results boosting liquids used as an addition to your moisturiser. They are powerful weapons to help combat fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, dehydration and pigmentation for a softer, firmer and brighter complexion.
Put simply
Serums are skincare products you can apply to your skin after cleansing but before moisturising with the intent of delivering powerful ingredients directly into the skin. Serums are made up of smaller molecules that can penetrate deeply into the skin and deliver a very high concentration of active ingredients. These actives include; antioxidants, peptides, vitamins (A,B,C,E), glycolic acid and skin hydrators such as Hyaluronic Acid making them a great tool for targeting your specific skincare concerns.
Can I use a serum instead of a moisturiser?
No, serums do have lots of moisturising ingredients to help your skin retain moisture but, that doesn’t make them a moisturiser in the traditional sense. Moisturisers are richer and create a barrier on top the skin to help keep the nutrients inside, so you can say that a moisturiser works in partnership with your serum.
How do you use a serum?
1. After cleansing your face, apply a pea-sized amount of serum, patting it evenly over your skin.
2. Follow your skin therapists advice as to when best to apply the serum – morning or at night.
3. Apply your moisturiser straight over.
