Why Use an Eye Cream?

I am often asked as to why a face cream or a normal moisturiser can't be used around the eye area and why a specific eye cream needs to be purchased. A fair question this is as it would make life so much easier if we could just apply one cream to serve a few purposes. The eye area and the skin around the eye area is very delicate and a lot thinner than the skin on our face so if we apply a face moisturiser to the eye area, we'll be causing an overload of product. Face moisturisers tend to be heavier and oilier than an eye cream and when applied to the eye area it can cause puffiness, itchiness, watery eyes and milia(tiny little white bumps on the surface of the skin). So, why use an eye cream at all? Well, there are no oil glands around the eye area so there is no natural moisturisation and thus the skin tends to become dry and dehydrated which in turn causes fine lines which when they deepen become known as "crows feet". An eye cream will provide moisture, plump up the skin and soften lines. In my next blog I'll write about the different types of eye creams and how to choose what's suitable for you!
