How to Choose the Best Foundation For Your SkinType
Our guide below to help you get the best results out of your foundation.
Keep in mind this is a guide based on skin type only - at the end of the day, wear the foundation that gives you the finish you love.
Normal - Dry Skin
Skin is very matte and has no excess oil, dry patches or flakiness may occur, and skin can feel tight after cleansing.
Dry skin types will benefit from liquid formulas with hydrating ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, to retain moisture throughout the day, and nourishing botanical oils like Prickly Pear Oil and Jojoba Oil for nourishment.
We recommend:
Oily Skin
Skin is dewy and shiny due to excess oils, foundation may “slide” off or transfer throughout the day.
For oily skin types, mineral powder foundations will help to absorb excess oil on the skin and reduce shine. If you love using a liquid foundation as a base, a mineral foundation or Mineral Mattifying Powder can be used over the top to reduce shine and set the foundation in place for the day.
We recommend:
Normal - Oily Skin
Dry in some areas and oily in others, usually in the T-zone (nose, forehead and chin).
The best way to get the most flawless results on combination types is to make sure the skin is sufficiently hydrated and nourished, before mattifying any oily areas to reduce excess shine. A liquid formula can be applied to the whole face, and then a Mineral Mattifying Powder can be lightly applied to specific areas prone to becoming oily throughout the day.
We recommend:
Acne - Oily Skin
Regular blemishes and breakouts on the skin that can appear red and irritated.
For acne-prone skin it is important not to irritate blemishes and allow the skin to breath by not applying makeup too heavily.
Liquid formulas are perfect for those with more dry skin, whereas a lighter layer of mineral foundation will help to balance out oily skin. To conceal blemishes and redness, the Certified Organic Perfection Concealer can be gently applied underneath mineral formulas, or over the top of liquid formulas.
Your foundation brush should also be cleaned regularly to help prevent the transfer of bacteria around the skin, which may contribute to more blemishes.
We recommend:
Normal Skin
No noticeable dryness or oiliness. Liquids will give more of a dewy finish, and powders more of a matte finish. Powders can also be applied over the top of liquids for a higher level of coverage.
Foundation Application
For the most flawless finish, it is recommended to use a foundation brush for application. This will spread the product evenly over the skin and buff out any lines with ease. Wash your brush regularly to prevent the transfer of bacteria.
We recommend:
Prep your Skin First
No matter what skin type you have, it is important to make sure the skin is prepared before applying any foundation.
After your usual skin care routine, apply your chosen primer to the face. Our Pure Primer is excellent for all skin types, whereas very dry skin will benefit from the extra nourishment of our Certified Organic Pure Rosehip Oil.
